Sorry these comments are so late; I’ve only just got broadband and discovered your website.
Being very nervous of driving “down south” (I live in Leeds)it took something special to persuade me to venture to Devon for our summer holiday - the something special being the National Sheep Dog Trials. Having watched The Year of the Working Sheepdog and all the Mist programmes we were thrilled to discover that Borough Farm was not far from our campsite and that we were able to see one of your displays which we thoroughly enjoyed. We have a photograph, taken at the trials, in which Kevin,(my husband) holding our old Moss, is talking to you, holding Mist. It has pride of place on the living room wall and Kevin is very proud of it. As we lost Moss last year and Kevin now has cancer it is something that can not happen again and is very special to us. We now have Nell, 11 months old, and I am slowly learning how to work her with sheep. Nell is learning faster than I am but we are making progress. Thank you for some very special memories.

  2. will (2 years) and mummy (25 years!) April 21st, 2012 at 8:37 am

Hello to all at borough farm! Will, mummy, gran, grampy, and great gran all visited on easter monday. We stayed for 2 hours, despite the weather, and had a fantastic time. Will loved meeting mist and jake, and having his picture taken with them. All of the humans were very friendly and helpful too. Unfortunately we didn’t get to actually see a lamb being born, but that just means we’ll have to come back next year!! We are looking forward to the summer displays, and as we live just down the road in combe martin, we will probably make it to more than one!

As for watching the programme, will loves it and so does mummy (I have been known to watch it when will wasmt there!) Another member of our family who loves to watch the antics of everyone at borough farm is zac, our staffie cross rescue dog!

Thank you for keeping us entertained, and also educated about farm life! Good luck in the future, and we’ll see you in the summer!
    Mummy and will

We live in Seattle, and a year ago we rescued two 11 year old Border Collies. They are awesome dogs. Then we discovered the Mist movies and the books. Thank you for such wonderful books, and wonderful movies; we’ve learned so much about sheep and dogs. I hope there will be more books and movies about Borough Farm.

  6. Sam and Shannon March 22nd, 2012 at 11:56 pm

Hi, hope you are all well! Shannon who is 4 watches ‘Mist’ on repeat every day, I’ve just bought the pup dvd for her so she can have a change! Her favourites are Mist and Jake and she sleeps with ‘her’ Jake every night. Its amazing how much kids pick up and she re-enacts the scenes with her toy farm. We even go to the cattle market to see if we can spot McPhereson! We’ve just visited a farm near us to see the lambs and she was most put out that Mist wasn’t there! Your stories are magical and I hope they continue. Thank you x

  7. Karlyn March 22nd, 2012 at 2:16 pm

I’ve always loved border collies and discovered Year of the Working Sheepdog by looking for Christopher Timothy stuff (I’m a huge James Herriot fan). I really like the video and fell in love with all the dogs, especially Fern. I’m very much looking forward to getting more videos from Borough Farm. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful life with us. Please give the dogs an extra scratch and pat from me.

  8. Kate March 18th, 2012 at 11:28 pm

    Hi there
I just wanted to say how much my 19mth old son Tom enjoys your programme. We have been watching it on channel 5 and he gets so excited and shrieks with delight when the dogs appear. It is definitely his favourite programme and he loves watching not only the dogs but all the other animals as well. I have to say that I also love the programme and have to admit that Jake has had me crying with laughter on more than one occasion. I have just seen that you perform displays on the farm so we will certainly be making a trip down to see you and all the dogs this summer.
A truly lovely programme and a joy to watch.
    Kind regards
    Kate

Having only recently discovered Mist through a chance buying of the movie in our local supermarket, I went on to buy all of the DVD’s available.
My son and I have been watching them since and very very much enjoy watching the dogs work and the silly funny things they get up to.
Not only do we see the wonderful dogs and hear the lovely stories, but we get to spend some quality time together while watching our favorite thing.
Fabulous idea to have a kids tv show of true working dogs, absolutely love it!
Would love to know if there are more dvds or series available (I have series 1-3 and the movie)
It is strange to read the diary and such to see how old the dogs are now given that we only just discovered the show! And poor Swift, she was a lovely wee thing!
I hope to see and read more about the dogs of Borough Farm, and have bookmarked the page in order to do so!
All the best and hugs to the dogs with thanks!

    Dear David Kennard

i have always been a big fan of Mist and all her adventures on borough farm.
i have always tried to keep up with dates of DVD series releases and the dogs ages and ect. and i recently just watched series 3 of Mist Sheepdog Tales.
in this i have regained my obsession about her again and even though i live far from devon i have always wanted to see mist, but never could and it saddens me.

I also just read everything on the website and to find that mist is now 8 and is now diabetic, the fact that my all time favorite dog is getting older, as all dogs do, i know that i will never get to see her face to face.

Swift was a great dog and i didnt know she passed in 2010. i dont even know if there is going to be a series 5 of mist but i wouldnt of thought so.

it would be great to know that all the dogs are well, and that mist is doing fine. she is a fantastic dog and i cried knowing she was diabetic and also getting old.

    please reply soon

    sincerly

    Dani

Me and my family has been to Borough Farm and enjoyed it thoroughly. I even saw David with the dogs 3 times in a row because i liked the dogs so much.
    Swift will be sadly missed.
    I have watched every DVD.

  14. Tom January 5th, 2012 at 8:25 pm

    Dear David

I came across Mist, on Christmas Day morning, we had just lost our border collie Meg of 16 half years, and seeing your dogs cheered my father and I greatly! I’m 26, but find Mist great entertainment, it bridges all ages!
We now have a 9 week blue merle border collie, and now I have bought your DVDs, she is fascinated watching your dogs at work.
I must say I love Jake, as he reminds me greatly of Glen, the working border collie at the farm across the road I used to take walks, sadly he is no longer with us, but he seems very similar nature.
I hope we can get down from the Yorkshire Dales where we live to see your dogs in action at Borough Farm.

    Best Wishes

    Tom and Bernard

  15. Kay Clough January 3rd, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Hi there all at Borough Farm

I have just finished reading your books David and what pleasure they have given me. I have been fascinated by your extraordinary writing about your life with your wonderful dogs.

Are there any more books in the pipeline? I hope so.

The very best wishes to you all for 2012.

    Regards Kay.

  16. Caroline Crawford January 3rd, 2012 at 2:25 am

I recently re-homed a lovely tri; that was about 8yrs ago; I now have a blue merle also.
Watching your tv shows have been a real insight into the mind of the Collie.
If you ever write a book re how a collie thinks, I will be the first to buy it….
Hope to visit you in 2012.
All the best to you and your lovely collies.
    Caroline, xx

  18. The Clare Family December 24th, 2011 at 3:39 pm

We came to your display during the October half term and loved watching your fantastic dogs do their stuff. The walk around the farm was great too as it really makes the programmes come alive to know that we’ve actually been there. Thank you so much for being the highlight of our holiday. We wish you a great Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

  20. Amy & Glenn October 25th, 2011 at 10:22 pm

    Hello David & dogs,

Having been avid fans of you & your dogs since reading your first book some years back (and watching Mist from the start of series 1), we finally made the long journey from Sussex to come and see you on Sunday. What a fantastic afternoon & well worth the 10 hour round trip! It was great to see the dogs working & Jake doing his demo with the ducks was hilarious. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mist & getting her ‘pawtograph’. The farm walk was really interesting. Great value for money & highly entertaining for kids & adults alike & will be recommending it to friends & family. We are now looking foward to catching up with series 3 on the DVD we bought.

Many thanks & all the best to you & the dogs,

    Amy & Glenn (aged 40 & 50!!)

  21. Angela Grant-Dean October 23rd, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Thanks so much for the pleasure you constantly give my son, he has Down syndrome and has a short attention span except when your dogs are in view !! He didn’t move a muscle during the displays and was enchanted to see Jake rounding up the ducks. His joyful face as he hugged Mist was the highlight of my year. We’ll be back next year - hopefully I’ll have completed the 1000 piece jigsaw by then !!

  22. Jo October 2nd, 2011 at 6:58 pm

    Hi,
I came to see your show one sunny evening a couple of years ago and had the best time! I was staying at the next farm to you and couldn’t resist an evening watching your dogs work….they were amazing. I’m not surpised they work so well for you, you clearly adore them. I bought the books, A Shepherds Watch and Dogs of Windcutter Down and it brought back memories of my childhood of going round the farms with my Dad collecting the milk. I went every opportunity I had, for about 10 years! The winters never fazed me even though the snow was as high as the lorry and the farmers had to bring the milk to the end of the farm lanes in churns. I loved that every season brought something new.
If I’m ever down your way again I’ll be sure to ‘come by’ and watch you and your dogs again.
Wishing you and your family (and dogs!) all the best,
    Jo

Seeing you all was a holiday highlight, and we both love you all so much xxx

  24. Karen September 10th, 2011 at 4:11 pm

    Hi
We came to see the last show this year on 7th September and although the weather wasn’t brilliant, it was a really enjoyable evening. Our daughter had been looking forward to helping Jake round up the ducks ever since last year, when she was too young.
Highlight of our holiday, both the sheepdog display and falconry were excellent, rounded off by watching our daughters face as she said hello to Mist at the end. Thank you very much - excellent cakes and coffee too

  25. The Willis Family September 6th, 2011 at 6:45 pm

We came to Borough Farm to see Mist and the other dogs on 24th August and had a great time.
Jake looks just like he does on the DVDs. He is still barking mad!!!
I enjoyed helping Jake with the ducks. When the ducks went under the bridge we all shouted DUCK!!!
    We will come next year.

  26. Sarah, Andrew, Sam & Evie September 5th, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Evie is so in love with Mist and keeps her autograph and picture next to her bed. We will definately come again the next time we come down from Leeds. P.S I am loving your books.

Hi David,Family and all at Borough Farm.
Thank you all for a brilliant evening at your barn display on the 10th of August, while we were on holiday at North Morte farm.
It was good to see Jake at work with the ducks and seeing Mist bringing the flock down from the top field. We also enjoyed the Falconry display with Richard. We have nearly finished reading both of your books and we are hoping that you will be writing the next instalment soon.
I was sorry that we did not get a chance to sample the home made cakes but will try them when we come again next summer, with any luck the weather will be better and will see the dogs in action in the other field.
    Thanks again,

    Hi David
We were on holiday at woolacombe Bay and visited your show on 18th August 2011. We had a fantastic evening with the sun shining and really enjoyed watching you and the dogs working with the sheep. The falcons were also excellent. The whole event was made perfect for my daughters by the munching on your home made cakes! Hopefully come and see you again next time we are down from the Midlands.

We have just been to see you at Dunster Castle this evening - we had a lovely time and enjoyed every minute of the display - we were lucky enough to help with holding the display for the ducks to run through! Mist was amazing finding the sheep who had run away out of site!
We had one of the dvd’s and tonight nanny brought us another, so we are going to watch it now and it will be even more fun as we have David’s and Mist’s autographs and a picture with them!!

    Thanks again

  34. The Bentley Family August 22nd, 2011 at 2:29 pm

    Dear All
We came last Wednesday 17th to Burrough Farm whilst on holiday in North Devon. We are all HUGE Mist fans and saved the trip until our last few days. It was SO worth it - we all loved the sheep dogs and also the falconry display from Jonathan. He has ignited enthusiasm in our youngest son Theo who was chosen to be his ‘helper!’
The weather was kind to us and the whole evening, weather , views, cakes and entertainment was superb. Good luck to you all and thanks again.
    Richard, Sarah, Max & Theo

  35. Annie Coates August 21st, 2011 at 1:27 pm

Hello to all at Borough Farm! We visited you on Weds 18th August while on holiday from North Yorkshire! Never has a four hour round trip from South Devon where we stayed been so worthwhile! We had a lovely evening! We enjoyed the Bakewell Tart (just like my Mum used to make!)We were so impressed with everything I got a real lump in my throat watching Mist run out and bring all the sheep back on her own, Jakey Boy reminds me of Maxwell our own Collie who we adopted as a Pup. Thank You for the highlight of our holiday! I will never forget it! xxxxxxxxx

  36. Carys, Shirley and Chris Walker August 19th, 2011 at 10:47 am

We did a 4 hour round trip to see Mist, Jake and Fly at Borough Farm on 17 August with our 5 year old -Carys. What a worthwhile trip! Carys watches Mist every weekend and has all of the DVDs, but even if you have never watched Mist, this is a brilliant display, and would turn anyone into a fan. Fantastic value for money, stunning scenery, and a wonderful atmosphere. Great audience participation, informative and huge fun. Of course Mist was really impressive, but Jake is such a star! We would recomend this display to anyone visiting Devon. We can’t wait to come back next year to see the lambing and to see whether Colin the dog makes it as a sheep dog! xXxXxxXx

  37. The Rabaiotti family August 18th, 2011 at 5:30 pm

Just wanted to say ‘thank you’ for a fantastic evening at yesterday’s display. We drove from Wales especially to visit and it was more than worth it. The dogs are a delight, and we all enjoyed seeing them in person after watching every Mist episode. And despite grim forecasts, the weather smiled on us too. I have a feeling we’ll be back next year! Wishing you all the very best, here’s hoping for some new tales in the not too distant future!

  38. Julia, Lee, Ben and George August 16th, 2011 at 11:28 pm

We visited twice during our holiday in North Devon: on 3rd August, and again on 10th August when due to the cold wind the display was held in the barn. Both displays were interesting and fun. Ben and George loved seeing the dogs and having their pictures taken with Mist. Now we are back in Kent the boys have now started reading the two books we bought. We loved the cakes too and bought extra the second time to take some away with us! Jonathan’s falconry display was great too.

We spent time walking around Mortehoe and recognised lots of the places on the DVDs.

We do hope you will continue the displays next year as we’ld love to come back again.

    Thankyou,
    The Walker family

  40. K@y August 11th, 2011 at 12:03 pm

Hi dogs, hi David and family!
Thank you for this great evening on Aug. 3rd! We came from germany and I’ve read 2 of your books before coming to Cornwall/Devon this summer. So we decided to have a daytrip from Lizard to North Devon. It was brilliant! The most impressive for me was to see how the dog/s caught the sheeps all alone over such a hughe distance.
Our 6 month BC couldn’t come with us, because of the strict entry regulations regarding anti-rabies inoculation… maybe this was better for the young dog :-)
thx a lot for this great evening and for the excellent cakes (carrot cake was gorgeous) and hope to see you all again.

  41. Anna Allen August 10th, 2011 at 10:52 pm

Just returned from another wonderful north devon holiday and want to thank you for yet another fun filled evening on the 3rd august. We loved it,a highlight was meeting colin!!!
whoever baked the carrot cake is a genius, the best Ive ever tasted!! look forward to lambing days next spring(by the way we still think you should do lambing live!)
    Hope Jonathon found his bird!
    thanks again, The Allen family

  42. Sel, Jan, Isabelle & Olivia August 7th, 2011 at 8:27 pm

It was our 4th visit to your farm on 3rd Aug as we always try to make your display part of our holiday at Instow. Yet again we had a great evening, it’s always good to see your brilliant dogs and the falconry display. Definately worth the drive. Thanks for the insight into your life with the dogs which to us seems so idyllic, but in reality is probably jolly hard work! The new shepherds hut refreshments are a brilliant idea and the cakes were absolutely yummie! Thank you.

  43. Deb, Henry and Alex Read August 6th, 2011 at 8:59 pm

Hi to David, family and your wonderful dogs!!
Thank you for a wonderful evening on 3rd August, it truly was the highlight of our holiday and exceeded our long awaited expectations. We wish you all the best for the future and hope to visit again.
    Thanks again

  45. Mike, Sharon and Sophie Meadows July 30th, 2011 at 11:54 am

    Hello David and family,
We would just like to say what a brilliant time we had at the sheepdog and falconry display on Wednesday 27th July.
The displays were fun and amazing. We would like to thank David and Mist for letting Sophie have her photo taken with them.
We are delighted to have our own Mist paw print and D.V.D.
We also enjoyed the delicious cakes and can’t wait to come back and see you again on our next holiday.
Thanks again for a great evening, Mike, Sharon and Sophie

  46. The Taylor Family July 28th, 2011 at 6:02 pm

    Hi David and Family,
Just wanted to leave a note to say how much we enjoyed your show on 27th July. As big fans of Mist! and having read your books it was a real treat to meet with you and see the dogs in action. Mist amazed us all with her skill of collecting the sheep from the far field. We were blessed with wonderful weather which made the evening perfect. It was fascinating to see the dedication that the dogs obviously have to their duty and their ‘Boss’.
Having not been to a sheep-dog trial since I was a child my interest has be reignited and we will be looking out for any local trials.
Once again thankyou for the wonderful evening and I wish you all the very best for the future.

  47. Phil, Jo & Ella July 27th, 2011 at 8:41 pm

    20th July 2011 -

What a wonderful experience for all ages! We had such an enjoyable evening with you and cannot wait to return again. Meeting Mist was our daughter’s dream come true and the photos we took just show her pleasure to perfection. Seeing Mist working just shows us how much work goes into every episode of Mist. We spent the next day at Morte Point reliving the episodes! Ella also loved the experience of handling a Harris Hawk at the age of three!
We’ll continue to recommend this experience to everyone we meet.

  48. Jim Freeman July 21st, 2011 at 6:49 pm

    Hello David,

We attended your display at Dunster Castle on 19 July 2011 and it was the high point of our brief holiday to Somerset and Devon. We want to return to the West Country next year and attend one of your displays at Borough Farm.

Do you know if Jonathan has recovered his Golden Eagle and his Gyr Falcon? We are worried about the lost birds.

Again, thanks for providing us with a wonderful time this week at the Dunster display.

    Jim and Leslie Freeman

  49. Michelle and Freddie July 17th, 2011 at 10:19 pm

Hi, everyone at Borough farm, we came to your display on 6th July and it was superb. Thank you, all your team and Johnathan for such a fantastic evening. My 4 year old was thrilled to have the hawk fly to him, and meeting Mist was the highlight of his holiday - and has watched the DVD and programme non stop since we got home. He is still confused why the sheep didn’t talk though!!
Thank you so much. The Cunninghams

  51. john & vicki hanger July 8th, 2011 at 6:09 pm

Thank-you for a fantastic evening, well worth what we paid. I especially loved seeing Jake and must admit I cried when I saw him as he is the spitting image of one of our beloved Collies that we lost in April. All the dogs where fantastic, you and your family were all so welcoming even though the weather was awful. It was an experience that my husband and I won’t forget and will be back again next year to hopefully see Colin taking his turn. Thanks again keep up the good work and good luck in any forthcoming trials. The Hangers x

  52. Elaine Gill July 7th, 2011 at 12:52 am

Hi,we came to your display last week, 29th June, whilst on holiday from sunny Scotland and can safely say it was the highlight of our trip. All of us adore the milkshake series and your books. My three children adore mist and I’ve proudly framed the picture of them with, (but have to say that we do love Jake the best!). We hope to see you again next year.

  53. Louise July 3rd, 2011 at 9:58 pm

    Hi,

We came to your display last wed,(29th june). Had an absolutely fantastic time. Our son George is a massive fan and was so excited to see and speak to the boss, and to meet Jake and Mist. Secretly, I think my husband and I were just as excited! Will hopefully be back next year! Thank you, Louise

Graham June 22nd 2011 at 6.00pm on holiday from High Wycombe, Bucks.
What a great evening at Borough Farm enjoying the Sheep Dog demos and Falconry display.
Having read Davids Books and meeting him and his wife personally added a wonderful additional perspective to the evening.
Next year, I’ll be bringing the grandchildren with me.
    Brilliant evening, many thanks
    Graham

  57. Alana & Aimee June 5th, 2011 at 8:36 pm

We thought the lambing days were terrific (move over Kate Humble) . We saw twin lambs being born, when you live in St Helens, Merseyside its somethinhg you don’t see everyday! We visited on the 14th and enjoyed it so much we came back on the 15th. We especially enjoyed meeting all the pups and are glad they have all settled in new homes. We knew Colin would end up stopping at Borough Farm - he’s just so cute!! I am sure Colin and Zola will grow to be fine sheepdogs. Hope to visit in the Summer.

  58. Irene & Stephen May 15th, 2011 at 7:01 pm

    Hi Everyone
Whilst on holiday we visited the farm on Lambing Open day, what a memorable experience as I had the opportunity of holding newly born lambs and seeing a lamb being born. After talking to you and your wife you very kindly bought Mist and Jake to meet us which enabled us to video the occasion.

  61. Harold Dillard April 17th, 2011 at 4:12 am

I have read all your books and we own all the “Mist” series…just love them my family and I!! We too raise Border Collies and have experienced some of the same situations in ranching or farming as you would put it.

Wish I was there to have helped you rope that lamb on the cliffs, I am a pretty good roper as I have done so for about 30 + years with cattle and some sheep.

Good luck with your farm and hope to get over to that past of the world soon.

    Harold

  62. Joni March 25th, 2011 at 4:21 am

Just finished reading “A Shepard’s Watch” and “The Dogs of Windcutter Down” and am so relived to find your web page that tells me you made it! Congratulations on your success with farming and other ventures. My husband and I will take a trip to Devon next year to see the display. In the meantime we enjoy our border collie Tess and her successes with frisbie contests. Not quite sheep, we know…….

  63. Patricia Tamman March 3rd, 2011 at 8:21 pm

Ever since I bought my first B.C. I have wanted to take herdong classes and teach my dog how to herd. However, my first dog, Glynn, had absolutely no interest in herding. ( I put him on sheep when he was 18 months.) Then I rescued an amazingly lovely dog, Brody, who was too old and injured to even think of putting to sheep. I now am the proud owner of another B.C. who has from the getgo had the ‘eye’. It wasn’t intil he was 5 years that I was able to find a herding class, close by to take him to, to see if indeed he is able to be trained as a sheep dog. The lady that runs the class is amazed at how good he is. We have had 3 classes (once a week, and no place to practice) For 15 years I have wanted to learn how to train my B.C. how to herd, so it is with a great deal of excitement that I am taking this class. Your book has helped my to read my dog better and to understand how to guide him to do the job he and I are eager to learn. I will turn 70 on my next birthday and my greatest hope is that I will become a ’shepherd’ before I die!! Thank you for such a beautiful book. Patricia
PS. I live in Florida, so your book has been bought by the local library!

  64. Helen Elwin March 1st, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I have just found this page and think it is brilliant. I didn’t think that Borough Farm was the real name of the farm and am shocked. I am glad that you have put on about the dogs, my kids and my husband and me love the tv series that has been on 5 and infact we have just bought a border collie puppy that they have named Mist after the program to replace our 12 year old dog that we lost last year, I’m hoping to train her to fetch the cows.
I’m sorry to hear about Swift. I hope that you do follow on the series, Mist is the kids favourite dog, but I think that Jake is brilliant and he reminds of Bob (another collie that we had years ago) he was a big kid and used to fetch branches to throw rather than sticks

  65. Adam and Ashlee February 28th, 2011 at 7:07 pm

Sadly haven’t made it down yet but just wanted to say thank you for many happy hours spent watching all the DVD’s with my daughter.
She loves animals and gets so much out of them.
Best of all so do I, i find them lovely and so, so funny. The humour in them tickles me pink, very Pythonesque in places, in fact i get funny looks from her due to laughing so much!!
thanks for all the happy times, hope to make it down this year

  66. Ruby-jude & Fynn February 10th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Hi there David and your doggies, I’m almost three and my brother is 11 months old and we visited your farm in August with our Mummy & Daddy and friends and were delighted to meet Mist also and see Jake and little Alfie in action with their duck friends. I never stop talking about you all, especially stroking Mist and playing on the hay too with my little north devon buddies Amber & Jasmine. My Grandadjohn has a sheepdog from a working farm in the Lake District which is the double of Jake, called Ben, he’s lovely too. We live all the way in Hastings and hope to be back again soon! Cuddles for all the doggies, love Ruby-jude & Fynn

  67. Hannah, Clayton and Chloe Leprette January 24th, 2011 at 8:45 am

Hello from Vancouver Island, Canada! Our 16-month old daughter just became a huge Mist fan after we checked out a DVD from our local library. She wants to watch “Doggie movie” all day. We’ll definitely be looking for the others in the series! My Mum grew up in a village in Somerset. I love listening to the dogs and other animals (and the “boss”!) speak with the local accent. The films are very well done. We love the humour! Maybe we’ll be able to visit someday. :)

  68. Laura, Albin and Nico January 13th, 2011 at 7:54 pm

We first met David and Mist at a sheepdog display last summer at Dunster castle which we enjoyed immensely. Since then we have become avid followers of Mist and her friends - we watch them on Five and have 2 dvds. Have just discovered your website - we think its fab - its lovely to be able to follow the goings on at Borough Farm. We’ve noted the lambing dates and will be making a trip down from Southampton to see you then. Best wishes to all the lovely sheepdogs.

Me and my brother Ben love watching Mist and the other dogs on TV. I love Ernie and Gail, Ben’s favourite is Gail and Mummy’s favourites are Jake and Mist, Daddy’s favourite is Jake. We have only just discovered your website and found that we’ll be able to visit your farm, but disappointed that we’ll have to wait until April!! Can’t believe we missed you at Mole Valley in December! We live in North Devon too so will be able to come often!! I am 4 years old. I am looking forward to meeting all the dogs.

  71. Karen January 9th, 2011 at 5:57 pm

Just finished “The Dogs of Windcutter Down” with my neighbours sheepdpg sat at my feet! What an amazing story and now trying to convince the husband to take a trip to Devon!

  73. Lynsey Jones December 20th, 2010 at 9:44 am

Just Brilliant - Kids came every week during the summer holidays and October half-term. Not sure who enjoyed it most us or the kids! Really helped our elsdest daughter with her fear of dogs - by the end she was volunteering for everything. Recommend the cakes - fantastic. Just looking at lambing days now - I can see a trip to Devon in April!!!

  74. shan lawrence November 1st, 2010 at 11:46 am

I visited with a group of friends and their children on Wed 27th October and, like many others, we were not sure what to expect. It was a fantastic afternoon and for us ‘townies’ it is a rare treat to spend an afternoon watching a different type of industry in action. The dogs were fantastic and David’s entertaining character adds to the event. We were also really chuffed that we got to walk around your farm and learn more about your lifestyle and sheep farming in North Devon. Long may you continue to be successful with both sheep farming and sharing your experiences with the rest of us. Shan x

  75. Diana October 9th, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Thank you so much for making the last display a week later this year. For the last few years we have missed the display by a week, then last year we came a week early & thought that, finally, we would get to see the display, only for it to be rained off! Not entirely sure what I was expecting but it was well worth the wait & I can only hope that next year you will be holding more displays during September. Thank you again, Diana & Graeme

  76. Lynn September 20th, 2010 at 11:49 am

We are the wardens at the nearby Brook Lea Caravan Club Site at West Down, we came to the display on 1/9/10, enjoyed it tremenously. Usually when we have seen sheep dog displays in the past they have just been in a small arena, but when you sent Mist and Jake across the fields to fetch the herd of sheep it was amazing.
I have a great niece who is nearly 3 and watches Mist on the telly so I bought her the puppy DVD she will love it
Thank you so much for a great evenings entertainment

  77. Julie & Graham September 16th, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Hi David and family, My husband brought me down to see your wonderful dog display on the 8th Sept as part of my 50th birthday celebrations, and we had the most brilliant time. I love to see dogs working and you made it such fun. Meeting Mist and Jake afterwards was a huge highlight for me,they are a great credit to you. My two dogs who came along were also fascinated. Hope to see you all again next year.

  78. Olivia age 10 September 13th, 2010 at 6:08 pm

    Hi David,
I would just like to reccomend this to all the people and children looking on this website.
I went to see the dogs and we loved every bit of it. Thank you for my pawtograph Mist even though I have already told you that in my other message.
    I love you all lots.

  80. Gwendolyn September 9th, 2010 at 2:26 am

Thank you for the Blog posts. We are in the US and faithfully order Mist DVDs each time thet are produced. My daughter adores the movies and shows. We adore border collies & have one; they are amazing. Ordering your DVDs, reading your book and reading/watching DVDs about border collie training has helped us provide a better life for our adopted “crazy” border collie (she is quite normal and happy now). Our dream is to travel to see a display!

  81. Gill & Katherine September 8th, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Finally made it to your last show of the season. So very impressive, and such a delight to see David and his lovely family, and of course, the stars of the show, Mist and Jake. Could it be time for a new book?here’s hoping. Kind regards to all at Borough Farm.

  82. Alice & Adam Smith September 7th, 2010 at 11:24 am

We came to your display with our cousins last Wednesday. This is our 3rd time and it just gets better and better. We want to book our holiday for next year. Adam was very envious when your son went off on the Quad Bike to open the gates! We were amazed at the patience of Mist and the paw signing. The cakes were lovely - Alice and Adam watched all episodes of the Piggy Sue DVD when we got back to the caravan. Thanks and see you next year. Alice (10) and Adam (8) Amy (10) and Sadie (7)

  83. Olivia age 10 September 3rd, 2010 at 10:58 am

  84. Jane, Matthew, Rachel and Granny! September 2nd, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Hi. Having promised Rachel we would travel down to attend one of your displays one day, we made it yesterday and it exceeded our expectations. It was wonderfull for the children to watch and meet their television heroes and for me to see such a great display watching dogs working and enjoying what they are bred to do.
    We will certainly visit again.
    Many Thanks
    Jane x

  85. Rebecca Rose August 29th, 2010 at 6:46 pm

me and my mother came down to mortehoe in the horrible weather last week and we were happy to see that you were doing the displays again, it was a lovely display and a nice atmosphere we enjoyed seeing the dogs it was good all round! rebecca

  86. Karen, Mark and Maddy August 26th, 2010 at 11:46 am

We came to see your display on 18 August while we were staying in Somerset and it was the absolute highlight of our holiday. Our daughter already loves Mist and the other dogs on the TV and their characters were equally lovable in real life.

As with an earlier comment, we thought the sheepdog display was on its own excellent value for money, the falconry was fascinating and an added bonus.

Thank you to everyone for all the hard work that must go into putting a display like that together. The tea and cakes were very welcome and completely delicious! We will recommend (and have already) to friends and family.

  87. Gillian Dorrington August 24th, 2010 at 3:04 pm

A wonderful experience on the 18th. Magical to see the dogs showing how clever they are,and their rapport with David. Not forgetting little Alfie. Will visit again.

  88. Anna Allen August 23rd, 2010 at 10:36 pm

We came to see the display on August 11th and it was wonderful as usual. Our daughters face lit up when the dogs appeared from the landrover! It is so lovely to see the dogs at work and we congratulate you for keeping everything so calm while Jonathon went to find his falcon (so pleased he did).We look forward to seeing the lambing at easter and the next series of the sheepdog tales!
    Thankyou again, the Allen family

  89. Karus, Mulsanne & Senna August 22nd, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Thank you for an absolutely wonderfull display last wednesday. The charm of the television programme was replicated ten fold in the reality. The boss himself welcomed us with a beaming smile and natural charm. You have managed to retain the feeling of a pastime shared as if we were friends just calling by, with a cup of tea and delicious home made cake, the whole show managed by the family. How refreshing! The falconry was good too, but the Mist show would stand on it’s own at the same price - that’s what we all came to see. The 400 mile day round trip was worth it despite the rain. Love to all the dogs and the Kennard family.

  90. Cathy August 22nd, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Hi Everyone at Borough Farm. I travelled from Northern Ireland to see Mist and the others on 21 July. The display was wonderful, Jake was amazing with the ducks and Mist couldn’t have done better. Such a warm welcome and hospitality too. I hope to return one day to Devon and see you again. Many thanks and best wishes for a long and happy future. More DVD’s please. They make such charming entertainment.

  91. The Tully Family August 22nd, 2010 at 4:42 pm

We came to the display on 18th August and it was brilliant. We were all very excited to be at Borough Farm and to see the dogs and “The Boss”. Erin was thrilled to take part in Jake’s duck display. It was a very special time and well worth the long journey. Thank-you.

  92. hannah redburn August 21st, 2010 at 3:41 pm

  93. Flay family August 20th, 2010 at 7:34 pm

We visited on Wed 11th and were impressed with the sheepdog show. We had been watching the Ch5 series so it was very exciting to see Mist and Jake in action. We were also staying in a holiday let right by Mortehoe and saw you out herding the sheep on your quad bike and the dogs in action - really exciting!

    We will be back again!

p.s. - at the show the white falcon flew off and didn’t come back - did you manage to retrieve it - we’ve been looking out for it ever since!!!!?

  94. Rheanna (5) and Darren & Cath Morgan August 19th, 2010 at 9:54 pm

Magical. That one word describes how we all felt about our recent visit on the 18th August - to see Jake. I know we should put Mist at the top of the list but we really came to see Jake at work ….or play !!
Mist is very special of course but there is something about Jakey boy that just keeps us all laughing and even without the voiceover - his unique character came shinning through whilst he rounded up the ducks during the show.

We live a long way away and there are lots of miles between our home and the farm but the memory of our visit will stay with us for many years to come.

Long life and good health to the wonderful people and collies, sheep and ducks at Borough Farm.

From Rheanna Morgan and her Mummy and Daddy (Jake’s biggest fans!!)

  95. Matt (9) & Poppy (6) August 19th, 2010 at 7:31 pm

    Hello

Thank you for the display last night. It was really good and we loved all the dogs and thought they were fun. We thought the boss was very kind and patient. We really enjoyed meeting Mist, Jake and Alfie and thank you very much for letting us have Mist’s pawprint. We have watched the latest DVD today and it is brilliant.

We would love to come and see you again.

    Love Matt & Poppy xxx

  96. Alana & Aimee August 19th, 2010 at 2:38 pm

We first met Mist, Eddie & Jake (oh & David too!) at Stowford Meadows on Monday 2nd August. We enoyed the display so much that we visited Borough farm on August 4th. We had a great time and will visit again when we are next in Devon. We have enjoyed watching Mist on Channel 5 and were able to complete our DVD collection. Looking forward to another series on TV.See you all next year, Alana & Aimee.

  97. Sue, Combe Martin August 19th, 2010 at 11:55 am

Have been meaning to catch one of your displays for ages and finally got to visit last evening (August 18th). I wasn’t disappointed. Great for all ages. Such a friendly atmosphere. Will be along again, maybe bringing my own Collie, Meg, to see if she can pick up some tips. Many thanks.

  98. Caitlin and Danny August 19th, 2010 at 11:31 am

    Hello,

We came to your display last Wednesday and had a fantastic time. It was the best day of our holiday and meeting Mist and the boss was brilliant. We also really loved seeing Jake and we think he is a star.

We will definitely be back and mummy and daddy say they would recommend anyone to come along to your Wednesday evenings at the farm.

    Thank you, Caitlin and Danny.

  99. Dominic and Iona August 19th, 2010 at 10:00 am

A really impressive afternoon for all the family! Our three young children were enthralled, and will no doubt long remember the fun of the display and what they learned from it. We adults got just as much out of it too - we are border collie owners ourselves and it was fascinating to see this breed’s amazing skills so insighfully and sympathetically presented! Will be back again and again.

  100. Angela, Benjamin and Alexander August 16th, 2010 at 10:35 am

We went to the show on 4th August 2010. We had a fabulous time. Very much enjoyed seeing David with Jake, Eddy and Mist and the ducks. It was humourous and interactive. I had a lovely cuddle with Mist. The kids loved it too!
I also enjoyed the falconry show although I wasn’t especially expecting to. It was like stand up comedy with birds. Great cakes too! A great evening and good value for money. Thank you.

  101. Nikki August 11th, 2010 at 2:52 pm

A truely fantastic evening. Abbi my 2 and a half year old is a total Mist fan, so when we found out we could see her in action we had to come. A brilliant evening, fun for all ages. Would come back again and again! Thank you all (humans and dogs) for making such a great evening out, the real highlight of her holiday! Now home, Abbi wont stop watching her dvds! Well done! xxx

  102. Paul and family August 7th, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Thank you so much for a great evening of education and entertainment.

We have been coming to Devon for a number of years, but this was the first time we had heard of you.

We have put a recommendation about you in the guestbook where we stayed.

    See you again!

  103. Jamie August 1st, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Stayed for a week at Woolacombe and missing our sheep dogs in Wales decided to visit the display. It turned out to be the highlight of the holiday. My dad has also read both of the books and couldn’t put them down. Thanks for a great evening. The tea and homemade cakes went down a treat too !!!

  106. Mott family July 24th, 2010 at 10:02 pm

    Dear David and family,
We would like to express our sincere sympathy for the sad loss of Swift. She was clearly a special dog who had a special talent. We have many treasured memories of her and lots of video and photos which we have taken during our visits to your displays.
    Kindest regards
Andrew, Judith, Toby & Storm(our border collie)

  107. Lucy(5) and Alex(3) July 23rd, 2010 at 10:59 pm

We had an absolutely brillaint time at Borough Farm on Wed 21st July. We made mummy book our holiday in Devon so we could come and visit (all the way from Liverpool) and we loved meeting Fly,Alfie Jake Mist and Eddie. we stayed really late whey past our bedtimes and loved every minute, we went past the entrance to the farm several times more that week and kept asking to come again, but mum said that the dogs were out working in the fields! maybe next year……oh yes and the birds of prey were good too and I enjoyed holding a kestrel and taking part in the show with Jake and the holding a harris hawk.

  108. Holly Thornton July 23rd, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Hellooo everybody! I Am the biggest fan of Border Collies and Devon, When i am older i want to live in devon and have lots of sheepdogs! I have been to one of the displays in 2008 at borough farm and enjoyed it so much! I Especially liked how Mist Just jumped onto me in front of the audience!! I Really liked the falconry display, Knock down the children! I got Mist’s book and her paw print, Hopefully will come and see a show next year. I Am sad to hear about Swift Miss Her Loads, Hollyy xx

  109. Linda Atkins July 21st, 2010 at 11:17 am

I have been to the displays twice at Dunster and will be going again this year, with my small grand children.

I am lucky enough to live on Exmoor. David and Mist also came to our W.I. (Cutcombe) last year, along with Mist. Our members were thrilled with the visit, a very entertaining evening. I have all the books and dvds and am a huge fan. Our little ones really love the dogs.

The wonderful thing about David,is his empathy with and very genuine love and respect for his animals. It just shines through all the time! What a fabulous life his dogs enjoy!

So sorry to learn of Swift passing on- you must all miss her very much. What a great legacy she has left.

  110. Kerry July 7th, 2010 at 8:07 pm

Many will walk in and out of our lives but only true friends will leave paw prints in our hearts.
God bless you SWIFT, So sadly missed xxx

  112. Melanie Brown June 30th, 2010 at 11:14 pm

You only have to watch the DVDs to see what a wonderful life Swift had but I am still very sorry for your loss all the same. Swift reminded me very much of our Border Collie. Our 2 year old boy is obsessed with Sheepdog Tales (he has watched some of the episodes so often that he actually says the script before the actors do!). Thank you for the pleasure that you have given through your dogs.

  113. Andrew June 15th, 2010 at 7:42 pm

    Goodbye Swift x

Very sad to hear the news, but happy to know she was so loved and had the best life a dog could have.

    Hi
I am so glad I have found your site, my sons adore the series and I have to say I do too! The dogs are amazing and my eldest particularly loves Mist…. Everywhere we go he spots a collie and asks if it’s Mist, finally I can bring him to Borough Farm he won’t believe it! We look forward to seeing you in the school holidays, thank you

We visited Borough Farm on a very misty day last summer. The show was so limited that we travelled all the way from Padstow the following week. This time we were rewarded with brilliant sunshine and my wife Gaynor made very good friends with Jake. The boys were heard to say “He only ever does that with the family”. We had just lost our border collie but had our smooth haired collie with us. It was great to see all the characters which I hear my wife and daughter (aged 24) talk about and to see Mist working with Jake so far away. I would recommend this to any one who has seen the programme and reward you for all your hard work with the dogs and all the other characters at BOrough Farm.
Hope we might see you agin this year.

I spent a wonderful day with david, his family, the dogs, the sheep and the other animals. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life so far. I am an avid reader of davids books and a “mist” fanatic. I would just like to say, anyone who’s considering visiting borough farm, do t! You won’t regret it!

We were on our annual easter holiday in Woolacombe and were so excited to get the opportunity to get up close and personal to te lambing experience at borough farm. It was so brilliant, from seing a lamb being born to holding and feeding a tame lamb.
We do hope that it will become an annual event.
We always come down in the summer and see the sheepdog and falconry displays. We are all fans of the dogs and love the Mist series on t.v
Thanks for giving up your time and we look forward to coming down in the summer.
We all think you should do the BBCs lambing live next spring!!

Hello to all at Borough Farm we are avid fans. My children love Mist and we have the ‘life of a working sheep dog’ and the book ‘Dogs of Windcutter Down.’ We have our own working collie(field trials) that we rescued from Border Collie Rescue in York. A great charity with really supportive workers. Please can you tell us what happened to Greg. Mentioned in the book but no photos on your website. Hoping to visit you one day but its a long way for us to come. Thank you for the wonderful programmes and all you do for the promotion of the Border Collie. They are truely our best friends. LOLXXXX

    Hi David,

We visited Borough Farm for the first time on Bank Holiday Monday, our family had a wonderful time watching the lambs being born and meeting you and your sons. Our son Toby is a massive fan of Mist and the rest of the Borough farm pack. His face was an absolute picture when he realised that he was actually meeting “The Boss”, Mist and Jake!

We all thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Mist and the gang, and of course the sheep! Thank you for opening the farm at one of your busiest times, the time Toby got to spend with Mist, Jake and the boss was amazing, you have certainly made one little boys year!

We have some great photos of the day and look forward to seeing you all again in the summer.

    Kindest regards,

    Gavin, Bryony & Toby Sadler

HI, Never met David or the dogs, but have read all the books and watched all the DVDs now and loved them all.

Brilliant insight into shepherding life and hugely entertaining and the books exceptionally humurous - recommend them to everyone!
Thank you for sharing… Good luck with lambing.
    Regards Denise

Hello, myself & my husband have been coming to Devon Mortehoe for the last 18 yrs. We have visited your sheepdog & falconry displays sometimes twice during our fortnights stay. With the weather such as it is, we find the best weather is during the first 2 wks of September, along with many others. Our biggest disappointment is finding your displays have finished & wondered if you had ever thought about continuing them throughout the September. Just a thought ! Look forward to your reply

Hi, We live in Indiana, in the US and have enjoyed your books, “Shepherd’s Watch,” and “The Dogs of Windcutter Down.” Are there any other similar books out there (by David Kennard!) that we haven’t read? Are there any in development?

  130. Nina October 29th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

    Hi

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed ourselves at your display yesterday. We had such a good time and made a trip from the faraway New Forest worth it! You really are a special team! Thanks again, Nina
